Soloing With Pentatonic Major
Soloing means building phrases, and putting them together to form solos (A 'solo' is an instrumental part in a song, often a series of melodies). This is not really a lesson on soloing, rather a practice session.
The pentatonic major is a five-note scale (penta means five) which is very easy to use, and very widely used in rock and blues. The formula for forming pentatonic major is W, W, WH, W, WH. 'WH' means a whole AND a half step. We will use the G pentatonic major for some practice. The scale is: G,A,B,D,E,G. Here is the first position marked out:

Below is a link to an mp3 file, which contains a chord progression. Download it and play it. Just keep forming phrases, by randomly hitting notes, and try to form some neat melodies. Hitting notes randomly is not really the best way to compose music, because music should come from your head; but for now, your ear is probably not good enough, and it'll be sticking notes together.
